Surabaya, February 10, 2025 — Universitas Nurul Jadid (UNUJA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Social Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia at an event held at Universitas Negeri Surabaya (UNESA). In addition, a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) was also signed between the Head of the Institute for Publication, Research, and Community Service (LP3M) of UNUJA and the Secretary General of the Ministry of Social Affairs. This collaboration aims to strengthen the role of higher education institutions in community service programs to support poverty alleviation efforts.
The Minister of Social Affairs of Indonesia, Drs. Saifullah Yusuf, S.I.P., in his remarks, emphasized that universities must be more actively involved in providing education and training to the community. He stressed that this partnership is not merely an administrative formality, but a concrete step in aligning academic knowledge with social needs. He added that this policy is in line with President Prabowo’s directive for universities to play a more significant role in national development.
The Vice Rector IV of UNUJA, KH. Faiz, M.Fil.I., welcomed the initiative and affirmed UNUJA’s readiness to contribute to government social programs. He viewed this collaboration as a form of academic responsibility in improving community welfare, particularly in Probolinggo Regency and surrounding areas.
“Universitas Nurul Jadid is honored to be part of this major effort. We are ready to mobilise our resources, whether through research, training, or community service activities,” he stated.

Similarly the Head of LP3M UNUJA, Dr. Achmad Fawaid, M.A., M.A., explained that through this MoA, UNUJA will develop research-based community service programs to create practical solutions for underprivileged communities. He emphasized that a research-driven approach will help identify social problems more accurately and design effective interventions.
“We will ensure that the community service programs implemented have real and sustainable impact,” he said.
Through this collaboration, higher education institutions are expected to play a more active role in bridging academic theory with field practice. Universitas Nurul Jadid and other universities in East Java now have greater opportunities to collaborate with the government in realizing community welfare. The event concluded with a discussion session between university representatives and the Ministry of Social Affairs on the implementation strategy of community service programs, marking the beginning of a stronger synergy between academia and the government.
